VIKING WOMEN: THE CRYING BONES

Viking Women: The Crying Bones, references the incorrect gender determination of corpses in various grave sites across Scandinavia. With new genetic testing, it has been proven that some corpses buried with weapons were women, instead of men, as was previously stated by archaeologists. Similarly to the project Bury Her, themes of gender exclusion in the recording of history are further examined.

This series was shot in Denmark with Scandinavian women who fight with Viking Age, recreated weapons and hand-made, historically accurate clothing.
